Some definitions to begin with- courtesy of Merriam Webster.
Mindfulness: the practice of maintaining a nonjudgmental state of heightened or complete awareness of one’s thoughts, emotions, or experiences on a moment-to-moment basis.
Myndfulness: My-mindfulness examined through this blog to better understand myself and the community around me. The act of mindfulness is a challenging pursuit and I am in no way claiming to be a spiritually enlightened, self-righteous soul capable of this ability. I, like so many others, spend a great deal of time in my own head and simply want this blog to be a platform for uninhibited communication. I believe a judgement-free zone can foster this exploration, however, this is but a luxury online where anonymity creates a conflict of interest. Nonetheless, I will put myself out there if it means I can help the two of us grow. So, if this sounds like a space you would like to join- then welcome to Myndfulness!
The site icon and banner at the top of the page needs to be credited to the talented Joni Majer. I found the artist’s portfolio on Tumblr and the graphic I chose deeply resonated with me. In my interpretation of the work, a woman’s body is stretching out from what appears to be a gaping black hole. She has the calmness of a sunbather as she lounges above while most of her figure still descends below. A Mona Lisa-esque smile paints her lips as she, in total acceptance, embraces her situation. Although she is bounded by the darkness that she has risen from, she can still appreciate the light surrounding her. There is nothing wrong with operating in these dichotomous states of being as long as there lies a balance between the two.
